How to take care of a hamster

1. Make sure you purchase a hamster-specific cage; it must be sufficiently roomy and meet the animal's needs. If you buy a cage with bars, keep in mind that most of the available cages are too small for hamsters and do not allow them to install all of their necessary toys and accessories while still giving them room to explore. Rat cages can be used with domed hamsters, often known as Syrian hamsters. Domed hamsters love to grunt, but the tunnels in hamster cages are typically too small. If you buy a cage with bars that are more than one centimeter apart from each other, your hamsters will be better suited to an aquarium (don't buy a cage with bars that are more than one centimeter apart from each other).

2. A dormant hamster has to have his own cage. In fact, Syrian hamsters can be deadly or severely injured if you have more than one of them in the same cage. They are frequently very territorial from the age of 5 to 8 weeks. You should be aware, though, that although hamsters may usually coexist, a battle to the death could break out at any time. Hamsters that agree to live together won't play together very much and will occupy different areas of the cage. Don't assume that the hamsters have become friends if they sleep together; it's instinctive.

3. A hamster needs food, water, toys, and a suitable wheel for its species. The bottom of the cage must be lined with plywood with a minimum 7-centimeter thickness. Use CareFresh, Natural CritterCare, or any other recycled paper litter. The wooden litter boxes are not suitable for hamsters; they cause health issues and contain noxious oils that are harmful to them.

4. The wheels included in commercial cages are typically too small and can harm the hamster's vertebral column. Purchase a wheel with a minimum diameter of 20 cm for nain hamsters and 28 cm for adored hamsters.

5. Make sure the hamster can't get out of the cage. The hamsters' resistance to that small game will surprise you; they'll race away and vanish in an instant like David Copperfield! Because hamsters can climb pretty high, make sure that every entrance is covered. You should also see if your hamster is capable of escaping the cage on his own. Make sure it can't go out of the cage, stay within, or squeeze through the bars.

6. You must give your hamster a variety of toys, such as a toilet paper roll, empty boxes, tubes, tunnels, choirs, PVC toys, old pantoufles, hamster-specific chew toys, balls, and a wheel for it to run on. All of these toys are quite amusing for your companion! The majority of hamster owners only provide them with a ball and a wheel for running. The hamsters end up developing bad habits like jumping out of their cage or rattling the bars. The hamsters require much more than a ball or a wheel to pass the time. Make sure to give your hamster the toys on the previous list. If you have enough toys, you can rotate them among them while maintaining your hamster's interest in each one by reintroducing them after a few days.
